Principle Investigator

Dr. Jennifer C. Bowen

Jenny (she/her) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech with adjunct affiliation in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry. She earned her PhD in Earth & Environmental Sciences from the University of Michigan and has a BS in Chemistry and Environmental Science & Policy from Chapman University. Starting as a chemist, she has always been interested in the mechanisms involved as organic molecules undergo degradation in natural environments. Her research spans biogeochemistry, photochemistry, and wetland restoration, and focuses the process-level understanding needed to reduce uncertainty in carbon budgets. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Ira and Ester.

PhD student

Kody Barone

Kody is a graduate student in the School of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences. He earned his MS in Marine Science and BS in Environmental Science from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a former UT McNair Fellow and a current Georgia Tech Presidential Fellow. Kody's past research focused on the impact of winter freeze on mangrove carbon storage in Texas. At Georgia Tech, he is researching aquatic export of carbon from disturbed wetlands. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

MS student

Parson Chan

Parson is a non-thesis MS student in the School of Chemistry & Biochemistry (expected graduation May 2026). He earned his BS in Chemistry from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and has interests spanning metabolomics, proteomics, and mass spectrometry. Parson joined the group in 2025 and has since been using non-targeted metabolomics informatics workflows to characterize the chemical properties of organic molecules in tropical peatlands in Indonesia. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹
